Direct trade is not skipping the middlemen; it is building a long-term relationship. At Közel Kahve we sign a letter of intent of at least three years with every farm and announce the annual purchase volume and base price before harvest.
Price transparency
- The purchase price is on average 35% above the exchange reference price of the coffee.
- For special lots (SCA score 86+) an extra premium is paid.
- All prices are published every February in the annual report.
Environment
The roastery uses natural gas with an afterburner; flue gas emissions are measured yearly. Our bags are mono-material (PE) and therefore recyclable. Spent grounds go to our partner farm in Silivri as compost.
People
All baristas in the cafés are insured; career paths advance by training and skills. We send the roasting and quality control team on an origin trip once a year.
